Fall Release 25th Vintage Cuvée Magnum
2020

Winemaker’s Notes

The winemaking team selected four barrels from our favorite small parcel of the DuMOL Estate Vineyard for this commemorative bottling to celebrate our 25th vintage of winegrowing. This represents a micro-one-half acre parcel of heritage selection vines that have never previously been bottled alone. This pivotal section of the vineyard transitions between light sandy soils and richer clay ones so the resulting wine has the best elements of both—aromatic intensity and deep texture.

We consider this wine the best-of-the-best for the wonderful 2020 vintage. It was aged undisturbed for 15 months in our favorite barrels from Atelier Centre France. Two of the barrels were new and two had been used once previously. I suggest you age the wine for at least two years before opening, and it will deepen in complexity and texture for up to fifteen years.

The aromas are complex, diverse, and enthralling: orange zest, violet, red cherries, and spices. Bright strawberry, dark cherry, and ripe plum notes run through the wine. The palate is silky and generous with deep texture and obvious concentration. The tannins are round, layered, and completely integrated into the wine. Vibrant acidity picks up the finish which features lingering notes of tea leaf, cranberry, and spice. The wine is both the richest and most vibrant Pinot Noir we made in 2020. 97 cases of magnums were bottled.
