Spring Release Dutton-Jentoft Vineyard Pinot Noir
2023
Winemaker’s Notes
Our 2023 Dutton-Jentoft Vineyard Pinot Noir is a wine that wears its high elevation coastal origins proudly front and center—you can sense the coastal Sonoma flora directly in the glass: pine needle, woodsy fern, kelp, and sea spray aromas. This mature planting, perched on a steep south-facing hillside, has one of the most dynamic site expressions in our entire portfolio—it's unmistakable and impossible to recreate elsewhere. It’s brighter and prettier than MacIntyre with a finesse and precision that’s all its own, and there’s a tangy orange bitters character that really focuses its style. I expect the wine to age beautifully for ten years —when there’s this much intriguing complexity in such a young wine, with time in bottle this special expression will intensify further still.
Highly perfumed finely cut aromas of rose petal, pomegranate, orange zest, and tiny dark berry fruits. Woodsy resin notes and sappy kelp freshness add intrigue. The palate is medium-bodied, supple, and energetic. Flavors akin to blood orange, blackcurrant, and black tea flicker and fade. There’s deep texture as the wine opens, and it finishes with persistent notes of orange zest and mineral wet stone complexity. Drink between 2025 and 2033.
