Spring Release Wildrose Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir
2024

Winemaker’s Notes

Wildrose is the final Pinot vineyard we harvest each vintage, since its low-lying, cool location holds onto the coastal fog and cold night air. As a result, the grapes accumulate great nuance and detail, expressing it in a vivid way — fresh, vibrant, and dynamic. Since this is the first vineyard I planted in my career, it’s also my most cherished. We practice gentle, old-fashioned, natural winemaking for this fruit — a cool, long, whole-cluster fermentation, with moderate extraction from the bunches and skins. The fruit contains everything the wine needs and gives it up easily, so there’s no need to chase power or character — just a seamless flow. The result is as delicious as it is complex. In our 25-year history with these vines, the 2024 ranks near the very top for pedigree and quality.

The wine’s aromas and flavors feature swirling red fruits — cranberry, pomegranate, and wild raspberry — alongside orange zest, rosehip, pine needle, and broad floral accents. Medium-bodied, supple, and poised, with intense fruit focus and real drive. The palate is both tangy and lilting, and the wine’s texture unfolds gradually. Bright acidity keeps everything in check. Drink between late 2026 and 2038.
