Russian River ValleyDutton-Jentoft Vineyard

We planted this very special piece of land in 2007 using our own historic vine selections. This is a high elevation vineyard between the lower Green Valley and the Sonoma Coast with lots of coastal influence. But what truly drives the wine style here is the soil depth. With very shallow marine-base soil, the sandstone bedrock is very close to the surface. The vines are very deep rooted, having drilled through the highly erodable sandstone. The resulting wines are very fresh and extremely intense with dark fruit in the Pinot Noir and beautiful citrus notes in the Chardonnay. Now that these vines have hit maturity and there is a uniformity of vine growth, the quality of fruit has taken a strong step ahead.
